Fearing Mind interview

Ask Any native Marylander about the local music scene and the last thing they'll mention, if at all, is true metal. Fearing Mind is working feverishly to change that. One listen to their original metal and you can see why these guys are ready to take Baltimore by storm. If you are in the Maryland area, go check out a show.

r1ch: How would you classify the music you make?
Fearing Mind: True metal - a blend of all forms of metal!

r1ch: When did you guys form?
Fearing Mind: Ed and Dave have jammed together for a long while, but the present line up has been together for about a year. Feb 2002?

r1ch: What was the first show Fearing Mind played?
Fearing Mind: Our first show was a Battle of the bands at the Tourist Inn, Central PA.

r1ch: How often are you playing out?
Fearing Mind: As often as a metal band can. Know anybody who needs an opener, haha?

r1ch: If you could pick one place to play in the Baltimore / DC area where would it be?
Fearing Mind: The Thunder Dome or Jaxx.

r1ch: Could each of you tell me about yourselves?
Ronnie (Ole Fezziwig): I've been playing bass for 19 years, and five and six string bass for five. Influences: Steve Harris, Gezzer, Geddy Lee, Steve DiGorgio etc. Favourite current bands: Opeth, Nevermore, Children of Bodom, Arch Enemy, Soilwork, Dark Tranquilty, In Flames, Iced Earth.
Ed: I've been playing for 22 yrs. Influences: Randy Rhodes, S.R.V., Edward Van Halen, George Lynch, Rocky George. Favourite current bands: Opeth, Shadows Fall, Rush, Soilwork.
Dave I've been playing for 20 years. Influences: Steve Vai, John Paterucci, Yngwie Malmsteen. Favourite current bands: Dream Theater, Rush, Opeth.
Scott I've been playing for 23 years and spent five years in southeast Asia doing studio work and playing with various artists. Favourite current bands: Rush, Slayer, Police, Bob Marley.
Dan I've been singing for 14 years and also play guitar and bass. Influences: Bruce Dickinson, Udo Dirkshneider, Rob Halford, Matthew Barlow, Tom Arraya, Ozzy. Favourite current bands: Opeth, Madien, Iced Earth, Black Sabbath, Priest, Shadows Fall.

r1ch: What kind of role does your website play with your music?
Fearing Mind: It's a must. We still aren't up to speed with the mp3 deal, but audio/visual is a must. Also, it lets us express our true nature and personality of the band.

r1ch: What do you think of the music scene in Maryland?
Fearing Mind: It's OK. Seems a lot of bands don't want to work with other bands; being from the west coast I dont get that, so it could be better.

r1ch: Do you want to rule the underground or be in the mainstream?
Fearing Mind: Underground is where metal belongs - always has and always will. It's the only place for a thinking man's music!
